Advocacy on behalf of all Spanish Medical Studentst

As the national peak representative body of all Medical Students in Spain CEEM's main role is to defend the opinion and interests of its constituents. Each term, all the relevant topics that affect future medical practitioners, the National Health System and the interest groups are analyzed and worked on at the four Standing Committees. The official policies and stands, which are determined at the General Assembly meetings after previous debate by each Medical Students' Council, are promoted, discussed with stakeholders and advocated in different ways to ensure implementation and generate change.

Some of the topics that are currently being advocated for at the national level are: - Public Health and Education. - Reform on the specialization system. - Adaption to the EHEA and Bologna Process implementation.

  - Smoking regulation in Spain.
  - Regulation of the role of the future medical practitioner.
  - Primary Health Care integration in Spanish medical curriculum.
  - End-of-life and palliative care teaching in Spanish universities.
  - Relationship between students and pharmaceutical industry.
  - Health professional's demographics.
  - Violence against health care professionals.

CEEM's, and hence Spanish Medical Students', official position on these topics is collected in the Official Policy Compilation, which is periodically reviewed in order to keep an updated opinion.

A wide range of other different topics are also tackled by the Councils in the local level, including: students conditions in their medical schools, effects of the Global Economic Crisis on local health systems, management of rare and forgotten diseases in Spain, health promotion on AIDS and other STIs...
